| Questions about the database |
| Q. |
Which database is included in FoodFinder 3? |
| A. |
FoodFinder 3 contains the latest version of the South African Food Composition Database (SAFOODS), the official database on the nutrient composition of foods eaten in South Africa. |
| Q. |
What is the source of the data in SAFOODS? |
| A. |
SAFOODS contains nutrient information from South African origin as well as from other international databases and scientific publications. (See introduction and references in printed MRC food composition tables for more information) Order form for food composition tables (pdf format, 28 kb). |
| Q. |
How many nutrients are available per food item in FoodFinder 3? |
| A. |
Provision has been made in the database for 145 nutrients. Information is not yet available on all the nutrients, therefore, there may be a significant number of missing values for nutrients such as carotenoids, tocopherols, caffeine and several others. The design of the program, however, allows the user to add missing values where necessary if it is available. |

| Q. |
What is the difference between FoodFundi and FoodFinder? |
| A. |
Foodfundi has specifically been designed for private practising dietitians/medical doctors who continuously have to analyse diets and formulate eating plans for their clients. For more information on FoodFundi contact PentaMedicalSystems
on (011) 361 2460 or visit their website http://www.pentanet.co.za
FoodFinder is mainly aimed at the nutrition researcher who is interested in analysis of the food intakes of individuals or groups of individuals. This program also meets the needs of those who are not researchers but still want to analyse diets or recipes for nutrient content. |
| Q. |
Is it possible to analyse the contribution of food groups to nutrient intake or to determine the amount of food eaten from a particular food group? |
| A. |
At present FF3 does not analyse the data in terms of food groups.
Data in FF3 can be exported to an Excel file and in the exported file you will find the code number of the food, the food group code, the amount of food eaten as well as the nutrients for the specific food item. Excel can be used for the analyses of the data to determine the contribution of specific food groups to nutrient intake. Amounts of food consumed from a particular food item can also be calculated using Excel. |

If I am a user of FoodFinder 2, is it possible to import the data into FoodFinder 3? |
